What in the world is insulin resistance, and why should moms with core weakness care? Stay tuned, you’ll be surprised by the connection!
As new moms know by experience, it’s not always easy to know how to heal your body once your baby comes.
You’ve read all the blogs, watched all the free YouTube videos. You’re doing all the “right exercises,” but your core isn’t healing, your belly still feels weak and mushy, and your pelvic floor is NOT doing it’s job (aka still leak-peeing).
If that sounds familiar, then what’s missing could be the ONE crucial piece you’re overlooking to rebuild a strong solid core. 😱
Well, grab a cup of coffee (or tea, if that’s more your speed), and let’s chat about something that might be slowing down your recovery: insulin resistance.
What’s the Deal with Insulin Resistance?
Okay, so here’s the scoop: insulin resistance is like your cells giving insulin the cold shoulder. Insulin’s job is to help your body use glucose (sugar) for energy, but when your cells start ignoring it, your pancreas goes into overdrive producing more insulin. It’s like your body’s version of leaving your partner a ton of voicemails because they’re not picking up. 😅

How’s This Messing with Your Mom Bod?
- It’s stirring up inflammation: Think of it as your body’s version of a temper tantrum. This can slow down your healing, especially in your tummy area.
- It’s being a party pooper for your muscles: Your muscles need insulin to grow and repair. When insulin’s not doing its job, your abs might take longer to get back in shape.
- It’s hoarding fat like it’s going out of style: Especially around your belly. Not cool, insulin resistance, not cool.
- It’s zapping your energy: As if sleepless nights weren’t enough! This can make it super hard to find the oomph to exercise.
- It’s throwing your hormones out of whack: And let’s be real, the last thing a new mom needs is more hormone drama.

So, What Can You Do About It?
- Eat like a smart cookie: Focus on whole foods, lean proteins, and complex carbs. Ditch the processed junk and cut back on sugar. Your body will thank you!
- Move that mom bod: Start with some gentle exercises and work your way up. Even a walk around the block with your stroller counts!
- Catch those Zzzs: I know, I know, easier said than done with a newborn. But try to sleep when the baby sleeps. Netflix can wait!
- Chill out: Stress is not your friend right now. Try some deep breaths, meditation, or even just a quiet moment with your favorite music.
- Breastfeed if you can: It’s like a secret weapon against insulin resistance. Plus, built-in snuggle time!
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Water is your new BFF. Drink up, mama!
- Call in the pros: Chat with your doc, a nutritionist, or a postpartum fitness guru. They’ve got your back!
